Samsung Galaxy S

The Samsung Galaxy S is another smartphone attempting to dethrone the iPhone and on the outside it looks very similar which is no bad thing. This mobile also has a large touchscreen display which plays stunning 720p HD video with a hefty 1 GHz processor which compares very well to the iPhone 4's. The handset is however a little heavy at 118g and the back feels cheap, but the rest of the phone is built very nicely.

The phone also benefits from Samsung's new Touchwiz interface which follows in the footsteps of the iPhone. The Galaxy uses Android so there are plenty of apps available and if you can enjoy taking photos this handset has a 5 mega pixel camera but be warned it has no flash, however it does have a camera on the front for video calling just like the new iPhone 4. Overall the Samsung Galaxy S is a great Android phone and is a worthy challenger to the iPhone 4; it can be picked up for free with certain contracts.

HTC Touch HD2

The HTC Touch HD2 is the follow up to the Microsoft Touch HD and is one of the best Windows smartphones on the market. It has a very large screen and easy to use interface.

Windows mobiles have been accused of being clunky in the past, but this one gets past this by using a powerful 1 GHz Qualcomm processor which makes the whole device run smoothly and quickly. The design of the handset is nice and very forward thinking and can easily compare to some of the best looking phones on the market.

The interface and navigation is simple to use and you can easily stream through the various functions. However one thing to keep in mind is social networking is not as well integrated as other phones. The camera is also a little disappointing at only 5 mega pixels and shooting video is a bit unstable. But when it comes to music and watching video this phone really excels with crisp sound and crystal clear picture quality.

As for apps it cannot compare to Android or iTunes but overall it's a stunning follow up to the popular Touch HD and is easily the best Windows mobile on the market, it normally retails at around £500.

iPhone 4

The iPhone is the king of mobiles, people cue for days to buy one when they are launched. This particular model has a fantastic screen, great design and build quality. The design of the handset is not as sleek as its predecessor, but still looks better than most its competitors.

This version has better reception and a faster processor which means the interface and usability is noticeably improved. One of the most important advances of this iPhone is the fact that thanks to iOS4 you can now multi-task, so you can listen to music and browse the web at the same time. The new model also allows you to store apps in folders which means you can have up to 2,000 apps at a time.

The new iPhone 4 is a great advance and still retains the title as being the best smartphone on the market and can be acquired for free from certain providers.
