Safety Signs

By: Darryl Cromar

Promoting your business is a big factor in whether or not it will be a success or failure. This is probably also the hardest facet of any business, whether you’re selling a product, a service or yourself. By having promotional products to pass around, you may be able to boost your visibility and get the word out.

Promotional items can be as simple as ball point pens with your business name on them. You can order these in bulk for a fairy inexpensive price per pen. Carry some of them with you and pass them out to people you speak with on the street or in your day to day business. Display them on your store counter in a cup and invite customers to take one. By doing this, every time the person uses the pen, they are being reminded of your company.

Other inexpensive items could include notepads, bumper stickers, key chains and pencils. If you have the money to afford more expensive items, look into having t-shirts or baseball caps made with your company logo. If you participate in conferences or trade shows, pass these out to potential customers. Also make up promotional ‘gift bags’ to pass out at these conferences and promote your business even more.

One of the newest fads today are plastic, stretchy wristbands. They are used to promote things such as breast cancer awareness, AIDS awareness, and many other type of medical condition. These wristbands have also been used to promote sports teams, schools activities, and religious beliefs. Why not use them to help promote your business? They are fun items that do not cost a lot to purchase in bulk and they come in a variety of colors.

The first promotional item on record was buttons that were created and given out in 1789 to show support for the election of George Washington as the first president of the United States. Calendars and rulers are also some of the oldest items passed out to people and to this day you can probably still get a free calendar at your local bank promoting their services.

No matter what type of item you decide to use, investigate the best places to have them ordered. There are numerous specialty websites where a variety of gifts can be found, from chocolates to pens and notepads to high-dollar purses and wallets. Usually, the more you purchase, the bigger the discount. For example, one website offers pens at $0.27 per pen if you order them in bulks of 5,000. Shop around for other prices, but make sure you also look at the quality of the pens or other products you purchase. The last thing you want is to hand out promotional items that do not work.

Promoting your business really is the hardest part of it. You need to build a customer base that will come back to you time and time again and tell all their friends about you. By having good promotional items that are fun and appealing, you can spread the word faster and boost your business higher.
