A routine is a magical thing in a performance such as ice skating. In everyday life, it can suck the proverbial soul out of you. If you find yourself in a rut, you need to break the routine. If you are in the dull drums, getting things moving again is rarely about one big event. Instead, it is more about finding little things to break your daily habit. You will be surprised how even small things can do the trick. Being in a rut is like living in a glass bubble. Life goes on all around you, but you really don’t notice it. Instead, you are blindfolded to your daily repetition and task. You need to wake up and see things. If you do, you will be surprised by everything happening. If there probably isn’t going to be a major event to shake you up, how do you break your routine. I am glad you asked. It is all up to you, but here are some easy steps to consider taking. 1. When you wake up, take inspiration in the fact you have a full day to do something great. 2. Instead of being cautious, plan on saying yes to something new at least once a day. 3. Recognize the value of time. Your fears today will probably mean nothing in a year. 4. Plan out a vacation, even if it will be a bit before you can go. 5. Kiss your kids. 6. Kiss your spouse or partner. 7. Call a brother or sister to reminisce and laugh. 8. Go for a hike and admire the world around you. 9. Try a food you have never had before. 10. Go say hello to your neighbor for no reason. 11. Stop reading fiction and focus on non-fiction. You will be amazed at what people have accomplished. 12. Analyze what famous people have over come. Richard Pryor’s parents were a pimp and prostitute. 13. Go online and find a chat forum for some hobby you like where other enthusiasts can be found. Chat away! 14. Write a check to yourself for some large amount and then set a goal of having that amount in some number of years. 15. Do a search on YouTube for “running bear” and watch the video. If you don’t double over in laughter, see a doctor immediately. 16. Take a nap. 17. Watch the movie “Rudy”, even if you hate sports. 18. Write a poem. 19. Read a biography on Mother Teresa. Some of these things will work for you while others may not. The point is not so much the list, but the idea you need to branch out in your life. Life is not about routine. It is about much, much more. Go find out!
