Ignatius Piazza Salutes Finland for Its Steadfastness After School Shooting

By: Jayden Adams

Ignatius Piazza, the founder and director of Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, the nation's largest, most successful gun training school, took a moment today, the day Finnish students of Jokela High School return to classes after the horrifying school shooting which took place there last week, to salute Finland in its strength, reserve, and gentle hand they've used to address the problem of this school shooting.

The school shooting in Finland certainly took everyone in the world by surprise, especially Ignatius Piazza, whose daily job it is, along with his cadre of trainers, to train and empower men, women and children in safe, responsible, effective gun use. Not only does the idea of a school shooting itself take Ignatius Piazza and the world by surprise, because of the wanton anti-social, evil, malign intent it reveals in the shooter, but also that Finland has, for so long, been a place of calmness, with very few school shootings.

According to the Finnish people, that hasn't changed. Many Fins are upset that the world seems to be changing its viewpoint over the safety and security of Finland because of one incident, "People think they can make an assumption about Finland based on one incident only. Our system has been working quite well so far," said Helsinki university student Riitta Marttinen.

And it certainly has. Finland has the third-highest gun ownership rate in the world. According to Reuters, there are 56 firearms in the nation for every 100 citizens. As Ignatius Piazza, Front Sight Firearms Training Institute and thousands of not only their students, but other responsible, trained gun users would report, this is undoubtedly one of the many reasons for their relatively low school shooting rate.

Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight Firearms Training Institute have pointed out, for the many years they've been in service, delivering their gun training to as many people as they can lay hands upon, that gun training makes for safe gun users. It's a very obvious fact, get training in a subject matter, and you can use or utilize that subject matter safely and well – not difficult! Cars are far more dangerous than firearms, yet we still let people drive them – but we require they demonstrate their ability with them. Say Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight, firearms and gun training should be the same thing.

There's no reason that guns and firearms have to scare people, proper firearms training will make anyone – anyone – into a safe, effective firearms handler. So why has Ignatius Piazza extended a particularly warm salute to Finland? Because Finland has decided that it will not be taking extreme measures following the school shooting to reduce the number of firearms in the country or increase restrictions on gun ownership.

Front Sight and Ignatius Piazza would encourage Finland to go even further and realize that the truly best thing they could do to prevent any school shootings from ever happening again is to require teachers and school staff to carry firearms. If a teacher were trained and armed, he or she would be able to stave off, deter, prevent or end almost 100% of school shootings. Israel tried it and it worked, America is finally waking up to the fact of it, and Ignatius Piazza encourages Finland to realize the truth there as well (and the rest of the planet, for that matter).
