Whenever we hear the word Santa, we often associate this with Christmas and giving. But if only this Santas were really meant to benefit us, backdoor Santas do make a list of our habits whenever we use the Internet but unfortunately not to give us gifts but more on problems. Where do these information land? While there is no specific base that they would fall into, surely it will be something that will be up to no good. Trojans are a familiar buzz word we hear of today. It is synonymous to trouble and hence makes Trojan downloader more alarming to most. Ideally, Trojan downloaders create nothing but trouble and once they infect your computers, you will surely be going like crazy looking for a cure. They are serious threats to you computer systems stability and if computer users are not careful, they may find themselves looking at potential general overhaul from Trojan downloaders. We all hear of Trojans right? Well backdoor Santas are no different from them. Technically, they are like intruders that can create havoc to our computers and though they may not be considered a serious threat, no one will ever know. But you should not even wait until the threat escalates from minor to high risk. Backdoor Santas are not categorized as spyware for nothing. So, you have antivirus program. An antivirus program is good against viruses and worms only. It will not remove spyware, adware and other malware (bad programs). Backdoor Santa is not a virus. It is a spyware, a program meant to spy on you. You need an anti-spyware program to get rid of Backdoor Santa. Once Backdoor Santa downloads through bad toolbars, they begin keeping a watch on all your internet activities. They view and report (to remotely placed controlling programs) your browsing activities. Your net behavior is studied and analyzed. Then, they start directing your internet searches to websites they want you to see and visit. This is why they are installed on your computer in the first place, to modify your internet behavior to benefit the installers. You may not directly notice the bias in the results for every keyword you enter on search sites. But visible bias towards your reported activities will be there when you look for it. Backdoor Santa is also an URL logger. URL is the address of the website you visit. It reports back every website address you visit during your internet activity. This report is analyzed for your internet behavior and then your search results are diverted to match your behavior, but to profit the Santa installer. There are a lot of people today who frequent the web and while people could care less, URL loggers are the other means of tracking the sites you visited online. Normally, they are stored in your temp folder and this includes even images of the sites, something like taking snapshots of them. This is perhaps because there may be times you would want to access the same site and to easily show them would be something better to do if the cookies and files are already on your workstation. You may say that this cannot happen to you as you have antivirus programs installed. But antivirus programs work against viruses. Backdoor Santa is not a virus. Antivirus programs will neither detect nor remove Backdoor Santa from your computer. Take preventive measure and have a good anti-spyware software installed on your computer protecting you from such bad programs. Anti-spyware program will not just remove Backdoor Santa, it will also prevent Backdoor Santa from downloading again.
