All your patio’s needs

By: Kenny L Leichester

Patio furniture
Must haves:
Wicker furniture is very stylish lately, thanks to the environment-awareness bug that has spread all over the world. It has made way pass the patio even, and is now elegantly gracing the living and dining rooms of most country-styled homes. Due to the high demand of such furniture, furniture makers have added to the variety of this type of furniture and produced wicker patio furniture. Among those that one could purchase are settee, sofa, Japanese table, rocking chair, coffee table, chest, stool, stack-up drawers, shoe cupboard, and magazine rack. So which of these should be on your patio? You could choose a wicker chest, which could also double up as your table, a settee and one or two stools and a coffee table.

Must Nots:
Large furniture should be avoided in the patio. Due to constraints of space, one should try to save as much as space they could. The natural surroundings of the patio do not go well with plastic furniture. Although cheap, you should not fall into the trap of plastic furniture. Even if you love a piece so much, you should avoid the temptation of buying a two of the same type.

Patio furniture cushions
Must haves:
There is something about cushions that makes a person feels right at home, even if he/she is at a stranger’s house. Hence, when choosing the cushions for your wicker settee, take into account first of all, the fabric that is being used. Matching the outdoor nature of a patio, choose waterproof material for your cushion; it not only enable you to clean up dirt easily, but it could also withstand the moody ways of Mother Nature. Secondly, choose the right color for your cushions. Choosing dark colors could hide dirt or mould temporarily from the critical eyes of your guests before you get the chance to wash them. Finally, choose cushions that are heavily printed floral patterns. The more crowded with flowers the fabric, the better it is, as it could hide dirt and spills as well as dark colors.

Must nots:
When you know what you should get; you will automatically know what you should avoid. Single colored cushions show dirt easily. The same goes with white and pastel colors. Patterns that are too spaced out also have the same effects. The types of fabric you should always avoid are cotton, polyester, PVC and linen. They are a magnet to dirt and cleaning them will be quite the hassle.

Patio heaters
Must haves:
Heaters come in all sorts of category. If you have small children, the best one for you is the ceiling heater. If you do not have any small children around you can opt for either portable heater, standing heater or electric-generated heater. Heaters keep the patio warm when you need them, so keep one in your patio.

Must nots:
You must not have a heater, as even the nights of summer tend to get chilly. Besides that, you should not get yourself a standing or portable heater if you have children as the item might hurt them.

Patio umbrella
Must haves:
The patio umbrella itself is a must if your patio is not attached to the main building of house, meaning it is roof-less. It provides shelter in case it rains, or when the sun turns scorching-ly hot. Get huge, colorful umbrellas with no seats adjoined to them. The colorful colors would brighten up your patio and the huge size of the umbrella means it could house many people in case of rain. Remember, rain comes without notice, and these huge umbrellas will prove to be heaven-sent when the main house is quite far from the patio. Besides that, get umbrellas made from the right materials; the best fabrics are the ones which you would not easily fade and could be easily washed.

Must nots:
Patio umbrellas that are adjoined with seats are less practical than their independent counterpart. The seats will limit the number of people that can stay under the umbrella in times of need. Nevertheless, to compensate for this shortcoming, one can place stools under the umbrella for the others to sit on. It is always best to avoid at all buying this type of patio umbrella if you do not want the hassle.

A patio can either be delightful or disastrous. To avoid the latter consequence, you need to be extra careful when planning for the things to go into the patio. More should not be your goal. Keep it simple and neat. You don’t want to drown yourself inside an over crowded patio.
